The role of Fairway Bayside Aged Care Limited Limited and its Board of Directors

Fairway Bayside Aged Care Limited is an approved provider under the Aged Care Act 1997. It is a registered charity which reports to and is regulated by the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission, and its membership reflects the community of friends of Fairway who are committed to maintaining this unique facility. The Board of Directors is elected by members at the Annual General Meeting and works tirelessly to meet all legislative requirements and plan Fairway’s strategic direction for the future. The Board works with the CEO to ensure that Fairway’s values are maintained and strengthened.

Michael Scully – Director and Chairperson

Michael holds a B.Econ. (Hons) and LLB and was a commercial lawyer for 38 years. He was Vice President of the Association from November 2015, when he first joined the governing body, until May 2018 and from that time has been Chairperson. He has lived in Bayside for over 50 years and is the son of a past resident. Michael chairs the Risk and Audit Committee, and is a member of the Clinical Governance Committee.

Anthony Price – Director and Secretary

Anthony worked in London for 37 years as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales before migrating to Australia in 2001 and settling in Sandringham. He has been a member of the governing body since 2012 and Secretary since 2016.

Olivia Darcy – Director

Olivia Darcy

Appointed director March 2023

Olivia started her career in chartered accounting before moving overseas to work in investment banking. Upon returning to Australia, Olivia worked for ANZ in a variety of roles across projects, corporate communications and finance. Following a lifestyle change, she moved to a farm in regional Victoria and worked as CFO of a community-based, not-for-profit aged care facility igniting a passion for using skills gained from a corporate background in the “for purpose” sector.

Olivia has a Bachelor of Business, is a CPA and currently works as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of Better Place Australia.
Olivia has three young boys and is treasurer of their school council and her father was a former resident of Fairway.

Michelle Ventura – Director

Michelle Ventura

Michelle’s career as a Registered Nurse with a Master’s degree in Nursing spans over 15 years. She has built a solid background in acute care and the academe in the earlier years of her practice. Since migrating to Australia in 2011, Michelle has accumulated a wealth of experience in the aged care sector stemming from her various leadership and management roles in both Operations and Clinical Governance. She currently looks after 88 residential aged care facilities as the Program Manager for Clinical Practice, Projects and Systems for one of the largest aged care providers in the country. As a mum to three young girls, Michelle is determined to consistently seek that sweet balance between pursuing her passion to bring about positive and sustainable change to residential aged care and being fully present for her family. Michelle is thrilled to be part of such a dynamic and engaged Board of Directors and is looking forward to helping make our residents’ lives at Fairway Aged Care better than ever.

Malcolm Brand – Director

Malcolm Brand

Appointed director February 2025

Malcolm has lived all his life in Bayside. He qualified in Business at RMIT. He worked at Sandringham Hospital and was involved in the original administrative setup of Fairway and was on its governing body from 1996 to 1999.

He has been involved in health and international IT companies, a health-related credit union and as a local medical practice manager.

Kyan Ho – Director

Kyan Ho

Appointed director April 2025

Kyan started his career in aged care over 20 years ago as an assistant accountant. His passion and dedication working in aged care continued filling various leadership roles for not-for profit  aged care providers, namely The Brotherhood of St Laurence and Royal Freemasons.
Between 2020 to 2022, Kyan was the CEO for Fairway.
He has a Bachelor of Business, Accounting and is a Certified Practicing Accountant. Kyan currently works as the CEO of Menarock Life, a private residential aged care provider with 12 services in Victoria, Tasmania and NSW. He is a member of Menarock Quality Care Advisory Body, Risk and Audit and the Board.

Steven Yan – Chief Executive Officer

Steven Yan

Steven is an experienced aged care leader at Fairway Bayside Aged Care, bringing strong clinical knowledge and a genuine commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
With extensive experience across clinical operations and leadership, Steven has a proven ability to support teams, strengthen clinical governance and drive continuous improvement. He works closely with clinical and care staff to ensure best practice standards are maintained, risks are proactively managed and residents receive consistent, compassionate care.
Steven is passionate about creating a positive workplace culture where staff feel supported, confident and empowered to deliver their best. His leadership focuses on building team capability, improving communication and embedding practical systems that enhance care quality, safety and compliance.
At Fairway Aged Care, Steven plays a key role in ensuring services align with regulatory requirements while maintaining a strong focus on resident wellbeing, dignity and quality of life. He is committed to fostering an environment where residents feel safe, respected and truly at home, and where families have confidence in the care their loved ones receive.

Simran Kaur – Director of Care

Simran Kaur

Simran joins Fairway Bayside Aged Care as the Director of Care, bringing an extensive background in clinical governance, quality compliance, and staff development within the aged care sector. With a proven track record working in areas of Quality Compliance and Clinical Care, Simran is deeply committed to elevating the standard of resident life through evidence-based practice and digital innovation. She has successfully led major transitions from paper-based systems to integrated digital platforms, ensuring that clinical data is used effectively to improve resident outcomes and safety.

Simran is a strong advocate for the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and prides herself on fostering a culture of transparency and continuous improvement. Her leadership style is rooted in mentorship; she believes that empowering nursing and care staff through education is the key to a thriving clinical environment.

At Fairway Bayside, Simran’s focus will be on maintaining the highest levels of clinical excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, and most importantly, building meaningful relationships with residents, their families, and the multidisciplinary team. Outside of her professional commitments, Simran enjoys exploring the coastal beauty of Victoria and staying active within the local community. She is eager to bring her passion for aged care excellence to the Fairway Bayside family.

Shani Aponso – Financial Controller

Shani is a CPA with over 15 years of experience working in both the for-profit and not-for-profit aged care sectors in Australia. Throughout her career, Shani has been deeply committed to assisting elderly Australians in accessing aged care services that promote inclusivity, kindness, and respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Olivia Hill – Quality and Education Manager

Olivia Hill

Olivia Hill is a registered nurse with 20 years of experience in aged care, hospital settings, and the public health sector. She demonstrates clinical proficiency, leadership skills, and technical expertise, particularly in care planning, patient assessment, multidisciplinary collaboration, and education. Her credentials include a Postgraduate Certificate in Nursing, a Diploma in Management, a Certificate in Business, and a Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control. As the Quality and Education Manager at Fairway, Olivia is dedicated to supervising the quality and training of staff, ensuring adherence to regulations, and fostering continuous improvement within the facility. She is committed to overseeing risk management, conducting audits, and maintaining quality systems to ensure that Fairway adheres to regulatory requirements and provides safe, high-quality care to all our residents.

Cathy Lane – Admissions and Funding Coordinator / Relief Manager

Cathy Lane

Cathy Lane is a Registered Nurse with extensive aged care and mental health experience. Cathy’s priority is and always has been people, those with which she works and those she provides services to. She has excelled in a variety of senior management and project roles over the years. Her most recent role with Monash Health as a Quality Partner provided her with valuable insight and experience in quality management and clinical governance. Cathy’s mission is to nurture and enrich the continuous improvement culture at Fairway with a focus on safe, quality care and services which truly enhance quality of life for all.
